For over 40 years, the Hubbard County Food Shelf has been a cornerstone of our community, providing essential food assistance to those facing food insecurity. This vital work has been made possible by the generosity of the community. With a 100% volunteer staff, we rely on individual and business support, and food donations, supplemented by contributions from local grocery stores, community food drives, and The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP).
Unfortunately, food insecurity in our community has increased. We currently serve 450 families per month - which is a record-breaking number of families relying on us this past year. As our community’s needs grow, so do the challenges we face, including insufficient storage space, limited parking, inadequate access to food delivery trucks, and the need for more efficient, client-centered services such as a client-choice model.
To meet these challenges, we decided to build a new food shelf facility. We’ve already purchased and paid for a lot in the Industrial Park and received approval from the Park Rapids City Council. We are developing a detailed building plan and are now focused on raising the funds needed to make this vision a reality.
There are funds available to start the project, but help is needed to accomplish this. The new facility will help us better serve the increasing number of families who depend on us and ensure our operations remain sustainable for years to come.
